The food scene is one of my favourite things about Toronto. While my go-to is definitely Italian, seafood is certainly up there. After a trip to San Francisco last Fall, I fell in love with oysters, so I was determined to find some good oysters in Toronto. Realizing that oysters are great for any time of the week, they are that much more enjoyable with a cocktail on ‘buck-a-shuck oyster’ night. This Summer I tried out a few, and put together 5 spots for sipping and shucking in Toronto.
Buck-A-Shuck Oyster night: Thursday & Sunday
Sipping pairing: Locust Lane Rose
Located in the Junction (aka Dundas West), they’re known for their farm-to-table set up, and craft beers. I love the hip and trendy vibes from this spot with the eclectic decor and open kitchen area. The interior is very cozy and cute, and perfect for date night. Aside from oysters, their main menu is quaint but delicious!
Buck-A-Shuck Oyster night: Tuesday
Sipping pairing: Henry of Pelham Rose
Trinity Common is a hot spot in Kensington Market. If you are a beer or cocktail lover, this is the place to go with their extensive list of craft beers and interesting drinks. Great spot for larger groups, and people watching on their patio which opens right into the main eatery. Their wood-fired wings are also so good!
3. Mr. Flamingo
Buck-A-Shuck Oyster night: Wednesday
Sipping pairing: $30 bottles of bubbly
This cozy spot is located Dundas West, so of course you can expect it to be trendy. Their main menu is more tasting style, so it works perfectly when paired with their buck-a-shuck night. Mr. Flamingo is great for date night, or a night with the girls with the $30 bottles of bubbly. Don’t forget to get the burrata and brussel sprout caesar salad too!
4. SKWISH
Buck-a-Shuck Oyster Night: Thursday
Sipping pairing: Bubbly, & b.y.o corkage – $10/750 ml bottle of wine
SKWISH has two spots; one in Leslieville and one in the Beaches. The beaches location is their original spot, which has a great neighborhood feel to it. They serve their buck-a-shuck oysters (until they run out), alongside live music. If you’re looking for a patio, check out their Leslieville spot!
5. La Societe
Buck-A-Shuck Oyster Night: Thursday
Sipping pairing: Domaine Augustin Florent 2015 Côtes De Provence
La Societe, located on Bloor Street near Yorkville, is a little french bistro that makes you feel like you are in a French cafe. Typically they are known for their brunch, but also their after-work cocktails, so bring your girlfriends and your Chanel bags to this social spot.
Enjoy!
